Oversees all road opening and sidewalk permits; provides daily maintenance and as needed repairs for city streets, storm drains, pot holes and is also responsible for street sweeping, snow removal and leaf/branch collection – no grass clippings; tree trimming and removal (municipal property only).

Branches / Leaves - No scheduled day for pickup
• Place curbside, do not mix together
• Do not place more than 3 ft from curb line, no closer than 10 ft from fire hydrants or storm drains.
• Do not cover storm drains or fire hydrants. This will not expedite pickup and will be referred to Code Enforcement.
• Be patient! This is a slow process and takes 2-3 weeks to canvas the entire city. Requests for special pickups will not be honored.
Branches (residential property owners only)
Cut branches to 4 ft long, 50 lb. Weight limit. No parts larger than 6” diameter. Seasonal christmas trees are also collected, no bags, lights or ornaments.
Leaves (residential property owners only)
May be bagged year round. Leaves must be in Recyclable Paper Bags, available at most stores like Home Depot or Lowe's. Do Not place in plastic bags. During November/ December and April/May loose leaves may be placed curbside.
Are not accepted and will not be picked up. Do not mix with branches and leaves. Do not bag; use a mulching mower or compost on your property. Bagged grass clippings may be taken to the Monmouth County landfill. Please contact them regarding current fees at 732-922-8686.

§ 297-17. Permit fees.
A. Application for permit.
(1) Application for a permit shall be made on written forms provided by the Director of Public Works with:
(a) A twenty-five dollar application fee.
(b) A permit fee of $15 for every 100 square feet or fraction thereof to be excavated in any avenue, street or other public place.
(2) A permit will be issued by the Director of Public Works, or his duly designated representative, provided that all local regulations are complied with.
B. Deposit. Each applicant prior to the receipt of a permit shall provide the city with an acceptable performance bond in the sum of $5,000 or more, at least 10% of which shall be paid in cash, at the discretion of the Director of Public Works, to guarantee faithful performance of the work authorized by a permit granted pursuant to this chapter.
The sidewalk and curb area adjacent to the property is in the “right-of-way” if the sidewalk and/or curbing is broken, the owner is responsible for rehabilitation. A permit and a $5.00 fee (check or money order) is required prior to commencement of work.

Snow Removal Guidelines
Our Public Works Department is working hard to make driving safer and easier in snowy weather. When a snow-removal operation is underway, Public Works employees work around the clock to provide the best possible service to the residents of Long Branch.
Here Are Some Helpful Hints To Make "Snow" Business Less Frustrating
Depending on the duration and amount of snowfall, city trucks may plow your street several times. As snow rolls off our plows, it sometimes accumulates in driveway aprons. Shovel snow to the right side of your driveway (facing the street) to minimize the amount of snow entering your driveway.
• Shovel and/or blow snow from your sidewalk onto the lawn, not into the street. This will also help minimize being plowed back in.
• You may have to re-open the end of your driveway and/or sidewalks more than once. Please understand that this is unavoidable and it is the homeowner's responsibility to clear it.
• If possible, wait until the city trucks have made at least three passes on your street before cleaning your driveway. Our goal is to clear curb to curb.
• Please remove your car from the street in order for plows to reach the curb line. This speeds the removal process and prevents cars from being plowed in.
• Public Works will continue to plow during and after a storm to facilitate access by emergency vehicles and to prepare for additional snow.
• To insure safety of pedestrians, residents must remove snow from sidewalks following a snowfall. Please remember that children are walking to schools and bus stops all over the city.
• In the event of deep snow, please shovel around your mailbox and fire hydrants near your house - for your safety and your neighbors'.
• The city will not be responsible for portable basketball hoops left on the street during this process.
• Public works and the police department will be enforcing the emergency street no parking rule on all streets that are designated as “snow emergency street.”
Not all roads in the City of Long Branch are maintained by the City. We often receive calls from our residents about the condition of roads whose maintenance is the responsibility of the state or county. Tree trimming and removal
All trees in the City of Long Branch are owned by and are the responsibility of the property owner for the premises they grow in. That includes all trees in the “right of way” located between the sidewalk and the curb.
The only trees owned by the City for which Public Works is responsible to maintain are on municipally owned property.
In an emergency, Public Works may cut a fallen tree in a roadway, however final disposition of the tree is the responsibility of the property owner.
